LMF Generative AI Working Group
This morning, members of the LMF Generative AI Working Group gathered at Cognizant’s Innovation Centre on Bishopsgate for a fascinating and highly practical session exploring how Generative AI is beginning to reshape the future of underwriting and broking.
Hosted by Colville Wood, CTO Insurance UK & Ireland at Cognizant, together with his colleagues and supported by Matt Jarman, the session demonstrated how AI can act as a real-time “Personal Assistant” during underwriting and broking conversations.
Rather than replacing human expertise, the technology showcased how AI can augment decision-making by listening to live discussions, surfacing relevant information instantly, and providing subtle guardrails around pricing, terms and authority — all without disrupting the human interaction that sits at the heart of underwriting and broking.
One of the most interesting themes was the role this technology could play in developing the next generation of talent. By observing negotiations in real time and understanding the reasoning behind decisions, junior practitioners can focus less on note-taking and administration and more on learning the judgement and soft skills that define great underwriters and brokers.
The session also explored the wider journey organisations face — bridging the gap between the future vision of AI-enabled underwriting and the practical tools that can already be adopted today.
As always with the LMF Generative AI Working Group, the session was discussion-led and interactive, with plenty of challenge and insight shared by the Group.
